I’m here to discuss the concept of Christian Atheism and its implications.
But what exactly is it?
Christian Atheism is the belief in the existence of a benevolent God, yet living as if this God has no influence on our daily lives.
How are we Christian Atheists?
Christian Atheists acknowledge the presence of God but behave as though God is not actively involved in their daily affairs. This is manifested in various ways. Christian Atheists tend to devalue the importance of practices like prayer, attending fellowships/gatherings, sharing the word of God with believers/non-believers, and testifying about their experiences (Testimony).
When faced with challenges or adversities (often attributed to the devil), Christian Atheists often focus more on the negative aspects and inefficiency of God, rather than recognizing His goodness. They may make commitments but frequently find excuses for not following through.
In their prayers and worship, Christian Atheists sometimes inadvertently glorify evil by emphasizing the power of the devil over the greatness of God. They possess knowledge of biblical teachings but struggle to translate that knowledge into meaningful practice. (James 1:21-24)
Christian Atheism can become a way of life, particularly when individuals become apathetic toward their faith, rarely praying, and regularly missing fellowship gatherings (physical or online).
The Bible cautions against this form of faith in 2 Timothy 3:5,7, warning against having “a form of godliness but denying its power.”
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
(2 Timothy 3:5,7 KJV)
Conclusion
As a pastor and teacher to some of you, I am urging you to actively engage in your relationship with God, which goes beyond mere salvation. Embracing this responsibility can help liberate us from the pitfalls of CHRISTIAN ATHEISM.
