QUESTION: Greetings pastor, “A very poor woman called a radio station asking for help from God. A non-believer who was also listening to this radio program decided to make fun of the woman. He got the woman’s address from the radio station and told his secretary to carry a large amount of foodstuff to the woman. However, he gave the following instruction, “When the woman asks who sent the food, tell her that it’s from the devil.”
When the secretary arrived at the woman’s house, the woman was happy and grateful for the help received. She started putting the food packets inside her small house. The secretary then asked her, ” wouldn’t you like to know who sent the food?”
The woman replied, ”No, I don’t care because when GOD orders, even the DEVIL obeys!
What can believers and non-believers understand from this story?
RESPONSE: What the Christian woman was talking about (whether she knew it or not) is the SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD.
When we say that God is sovereign, we mean that everything is under his control (both good and evil, natural and supernatural).
God’s sovereignty is shown by the fact that he is the creator; hence, everything natural that contemporary science has explored is his creation, and even supernatural forces such as Sin (a power opposed to divinity) are a natural byproduct of God’s creation of humanity.
In the sovereign creation of God, the natural universe operates within and by his ordination. Besides the sin effects on nature, everything works, functions and exists in the way he ordained it to and even after the sin effects, the marks of Divine sovereignty and divine order are visible.
As a result, the good we see in this world is a result of God’s sovereign divine design, while the evil we see in this world is a result of the same God’s permissive sovereignty. God, in His sovereignty, allows evil to fully exercise its will so that volitional beings like us can pick our side of the two sides of GOOD and EVIL freely and not under compulsion (Genesis 2:16-17).
God’s sovereignty is the supreme power that allows all other forces, including the divine opposing power (Sin), to work to their full potential without interference from God. Real power is power that accepts a wide range of powers and allows them to express themselves freely within it while being unaffected. God’s sovereignty is manifested in this way.
Given her response, the Christian woman recognised two key points: the first is that she recognised to whom all of the material world belongs. The world and everything in it belong to God (Genesis 1:1, Psalms 24:1). As a result, God has sole ownership of everything (raw or processed) and everyone in the Universe.
The second thing this Christian woman understood was that even if the Devil himself dared to give anything to anyone, it would be (a) because of the permissive sovereignty with which the Devil operates in the universe owned by God (Job 1:6-19), and (b) because the devil has never and will never bring anything into existence, and thus because he owns nothing, he can’t give what he doesn’t own (John 8:44).
I’ve heard people travel to oceans, shrines, persons (pastors, prophets, sorcerers, etc.) to be given, but let it be known from today on that the devil has nothing and hence what he gives is of God, and he only names himself as the donor because he is a liar (Mathew 4:1-11; John 8:44).
So, if the devil did any good with his natural ill-intentions and someone benefited, it is God, not the devil, who should be worshipped. Because everything is done under his authority and all actors are under his control.
