Is the God of the Old Testament the same God of the New Testament?

Question:

Pastor why is God the father depicted as a very harsh person in the books of the old testament unlike in the new testament:-):-):-)

Answer:

Thank you for this question and I will give you a very straight answer.

The Old Testament tells us who God is on one side and the New Testament tells us who God is on the other side. Both testaments, therefore, are a complete description and prescription of who God is.

The Old Testament presents a wrathful side of God and the New Testament presents a loving side of God. From the two, you understand who really God is.

The problem with both the Old Testament generation and the New Testament generation is that we misrepresent God for WHO HE IS when we present just the one side of himself that he emphasizes in every era.

But a proper understanding of the Old Testament will help one see that the God of the Old Testament is LOVING and not just WRATHFUL (refer to the garden of Eden) and a serious study of the New Testament will reveal that the God in there is BRUTAL (refer to the Cross)

Finally, once this truth is revealed to us, we cease the one-sided view of Jesus Christ as SAVIOR and we now confess him as LORD and SAVIOR.

Jesus is not just a SAVIOR, he is also the LORD who holds and will hold all of us accountable. Because we are obsessed with how we can be saved, we have entirely lost the LORDSHIP OF CHRIST in our hearts. But reading the Old Testament will help you balance the boat.
