IS POVERTY GEOGRAPHICAL?

IS POVERTY GEOGRAPHICAL?

My brother Jethro Musoke, in our critical thinking dialogues, asked me? Is poverty geographical? Here is my answer. Yes, poverty is geographical and it is a geography as well and here are examples:

  • Genesis 2:9-15 = wealth geography
  • Genesis 3:7-24 onwards= Poverty Geography

  • Saud Arabia Oil Wells = Wealth Geography
  • Rwanda Hills = Poverty Geography

  • American Economy = Wealth Geography
  • Burundi Economy= Poverty Geography

  • Kampala = Wealth Geography
  • Your Village =Poverty Geography

I could go on and on and you could go further yourself but here is another geographical definition of poverty.

  • HEAD GEOGRAPHY
  • HEART GEOGRAPHY
  • HANDS GEOGRAPHY

All the above are geographies and they are inter-related geographies in a single human being that chronologically determine the presence of poverty geographically. Once you are in {not just with one} a poor HEADS GEOGRAPHY then poverty is a Geography and no matter what you do, your geography is not just POOR but it is POVERTY. What happens in your head, heart and hands geography determines the presence or absence of poverty.

Now a Head geography {how you think, reason and resolve} has way too much to do with the HEART and HANDS GEOGRAPHIES. {What you do, how committed you are}. Poverty, therefore, is defined by how operative your hand geography is and the state {whereabouts} of your HEART GEOGRAPHY {feelings, belief systems}.

So before you cross borders I want you to pick a lesson or two from the people of Libya. They had a dictator leader Muammar Gaddafi. The country was a poverty geography and, through this dictator, turned into a wealth geography. The problem, however, was that the dictator focused on one category of the poverty geography in human anthropology at the expense of another category of poverty geography.

This leader transformed the country but not the people. So while Libya was a wealth geography in the days of Gaddafi, it had POOR {poverty} HEADS, HEART, and HANDS. The head poverty Geography in conjunction with the heart and Hands poverty geographies will always emerge triumphant over any wealthy geography that the HEAD, HEART, and HAND is not conversant with.

In the days of Gaddafi, there were very few people leaving and dying on the sea struggling to switch geographies than those dying today.

Poverty is a geography, and there is a broad theological poverty geography known as THE FALLEN EARTH (Genesis 3). For fallen reasons, whatever we do in this world isn’t easily successful. In other words, it is easier to fail in this world than it is to succeed. So we are geographically founded on poverty {Opposition}.

However, there is the Narrow circle wealth geography within the broad poverty geography (Genesis 4= while Cain was broke and broken, Abel was wealthy and sober). In other words, while some people are leaving one country (geography) for wealth, others prove more successful in the same country than those who left. Now here is the thing about this concept of POVERTY AS A GEOGRAPHY.

It is not true that whoever switches geography gets better. Some fail more in America than they were in Africa. And at the same time, others are successful and have revolutionized their African geographies economically (big-good investments and developments) but from America, Europe or Middle East Geography.

From this, we learn that the problem is not with WHERE YOU ARE {because while you are poor in Uganda there is another rich person in Uganda, so poverty is your personal geography and wealth is their personal geography in the same Uganda-geography}, the problem, therefore, is with WHO IS WHERE.

Moses attempted to take the WRONG PEOPLE from a WRONG PLACE under WRONG CONDITIONS to a RIGHT PLACE with RIGHT CONDITIONS, and they all {except two individuals} perished on their way to success. Note that none of them had died under oppressive slavery in Egypt, but all of them died under freedom {Joshua 5:6}.

Here is the thing, poverty becomes a geography when the wrong person is in the right place. When we bring our wrong heads, wrong hearts and wrong hands we create poverty even in a country with oil wells like Libya and Iraq. But when the right person (geography) comes to a wrong place (geography) the wrong becomes right. What am telling you is that you are poor and might remain poor because you are the wrong person in the right place. Joseph could have been a lifetime dreamer if he had not changed geographies.

He could only be great in Egypt not in his homeland. For Joseph, his homeland was a departure point but not where he was going. Check well and ensure you are not a joseph stuck at the departure. For Joseph, his homeland was a raw material. It was where he dreamt from but not where his dreams could be birthed. Notice that when his brothers (wrong people) followed him in Egypt, they became slaves where he was a prime minister.

Your head (how you think), heart (your emotional composition) and hands (how you do things) is a geography that is specifically compatible with a particular geography on the world map. The sooner you discover this, the better you will be. Before you move, dwell so much on who is moving from where and to where. Otherwise, children might be moving from home to become slaves in other geographies for four hundred years. Or on the flip side, Obama wouldn’t have become the president of America if maintained his Kenyan citizenship and stayed there. Many failed in cities and thrived in villages while those who failed in villages are the owners of the cities. If you take an ocean to a desert, the ocean will dry but if you take the fountain of the ocean to the same desert, the desert will be no more.

Poor people (HEAD, HEART, and HANDS) are a geography and it is not a coincidence that they populate world slums. And if that poor people geography is not worked upon, they will create poverty in a wealth geography. POVERTY THEREFORE IS A GEOGRAPHY. It is a geography when you are born in a country without resources and in conflicts of all sorts or born by poor parents. Both Poverty and Wealth is a geography and a permanent one if you become {in HEAD, HEART and HANDS} like where you were born or find yourself.

God bless you I invoke TRUTH, WISDOM, and FAITH (2Tim 2:7)
