Recently in Seeta, a high ranking officer and Uganda’s ambasador to Burundi, Major General Matayo Kyaligonza, together with his escorts, harassed a traffic officer on duty.
Ever since that incident, this diplomat and his escorts have been cursed and castigated. In fact, the escorts were arrested and imprisoned and the parliament has already recommended to the appointing authority to withdraw Major General Matayo Kyaligonza from his ambassadorial duties and relieve him from all other duties as well.
The past of this man has been dug-up and all records of his past misdemenaors have been given fresh publicity and he is, apparently, the worst sinner of the nation.
Many people in my inbox have been asking for my say about the matter and here it is:
I am another Matayo Kyaligonza and I would have slapped that traffic woman and actually kicked her in the stomach. And the reason would be this: SHE WAS RIGHT AND I WAS WRONG.
Kyaligonza and his escorts beat up this woman for fundamentally one reason: SHE STOPPED THEM FROM DOING THE WRONG THING. They made a U-TURN in the middle of the road and she stood before their car and blocked them. By doing the right thing, she was on the wrong side of a broken world like ours. That is why she was beaten.
Before we curse Kyaligonza, let us remember the challenge of Jesus Christ in John 8: LET HE WHO HAVE NEVER DONE IT BE THE FIRST TO CAST A STONE. I have witnessed thieves beating up a whistle blower.
Police stations are filled with housewives who are victims of domestic violence and the reason was that they were right and their husbands were wrong. Men beat up women just because women point out how wrong these husbands are. Many people have been thrown into jails and others killed for no other reason but because they were right and their killers were wrong.
In John 6, John the Baptist is put in jail and eventually beheaded just because he preached against the adultery of King Herod. Many journalists are exiled and others killed for reporting exact facts about authorities.
As a pastor, I cannot begin to tell you how many friendships I have lost, how many hate me for only one reason: telling them how wrong they are.
Our generation is a generation of people who do not want to be told that they are wrong. They come to church and all they want to hear is you PRAISING them, PROMISING them a better future regardless of their behavior, and casting the blame on others and other forces but not them.
It is a generation you can’t tell they are wrong and if you did, then you are judging and you deserve a slap. Am sure sinners are going to start slapping us pastors who stand in their way when they make a U-TURN.
Many of us, with impunity, have disobeyed our parents, others have abused their employees just because they are under our power. We are all Matayo kyaligonzazs, the only difference is that we are not followed by cameras like the brother was.
You also have SLAPPED TRUTH IN THE FACE somewhere, somehow and have successfully made your U-TURN in the middle of the road.
Today, I was Insulted by a man I asked not to litter. Now I ask you, how do you behave when you are wrong but powerful? Omukulu Tasobya. My boss once told me; The administration is always right. Do you see how our generation thinks?
I could go on and on, but let me ask you. How different are you really off-camera from Kyaligonza?
Let us not focus on Kyaligonza. Kyaligonza was just our mirror. What we saw him do was an exhibition of ourselves. IT IS A PITY IF WE MISS THE LESSON AND TAKE THE TEACHING AID HOME.
God bless you, I invoke Truth, Reason and Faith (2Tim 2:7)
