SHIMEI AND DAVID

There are powerful people we hate. We feel like killing them but because they are so powerful we cannot. Lo and behold, an opportunity shows up and they are running for their lives.

We thank God for the opportunity and start dealing with these people. And after we are done with them. After some time, these same people show up again  – more powerful than they were and we are still the same status quo.

Shimei was in the Kingdom of David but never liked David. When problems hit David, Shimei danced on the grave of David, insulted him, spit at him and stoned him. (2Samuel 16:5-8)

After sometime, David returned more powerful and Shimei came crawling and begging for forgiveness and David forgave him (2Samuel 19:16-23)

The lesson here is simple. There are people just better than us. We cannot expect that insulting them and abusing them will bring us to their level. A healthy cat cannot weigh the same with a slim and sick elephant.

Always remember not to jubilate when others are in problems. I wish Shimei had helped David. He wouldn’t have lost a thing in helping this fugitive.

People are different, we are not the same. Let’s stop competing and fighting those better than us. Let’s get close to them and learn from them. You never know when you will need that person, so be good.

My mother used to tell me that while you don’t have to explain why you are good, you will always have to explain why you are bad.
