When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man stood before him with his drawn sword in his hand; and Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?” And he said, “No”; but as commander of the army of the LORD I have now come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and worshipped, and said to him, “What does my lord bid his servant? (Joshua 5:13-14)
As a Bible teacher, there is a divine mandate on me to tell you the truth as it is and then draw the lessons based on what the truth is. The truth, ladies and gentlemen, is that God takes no sides except his SIDE.
The next time you are in such a situation of right and wrong, bad and good with someone, I want you to remember that God is neither on your side nor on the side of your opponent. God has no team in the football World Cup, and you waste time to pray to God before the match for a win.
All teams have his people. All you can pray for is protection from injuries and accidents but as for the game, it is important to know that God is wearing no jersey labelled with any national flag. God is wearing his own jersey, not that of the winners or the losers.
I know you might have enemies or at least people you disagreed with, and because you know by facts you are right and they are wrong, you now assume God is on your side. Listen, my sister and my brother, God is not on your side and the good news is that he is neither on their side. Stop praying to God asking him to join you so that your shop can be victorious over the shop across, don’t pray that you beat Isaiah-White at what you are both competing or doing.
Here is the reason:
Joshua asked God: “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?” And God answered: “No”.
Is God saying NO am not for Team Joshua or NO am not for your adversaries? Where does the NO apply? When you read the whole verse and the next verse (15), it is easy for you to understand that the NO meant NEITHER. So the first victory message here is for to know that if you want to be victorious in life, learn that GOD TAKES NO SIDES BUT HIS.
All victorious people do understand that God is not their fan and neither does God follow us on Twitter. However victorious we are, we are not celebrities to God but instead, God is our celeb. He is the icon, the superstar and we the victors, are his fans, supporters and followers. Whoever is followed by God on Twitter, is not victorious in God but his victory has been solicited outside God.
In the pursuit of victory, we must understand that when you are dealing with God, always remember that he takes no SIDE (be it right or wrong) but HIS SIDE. It is us to take his side, not asking him to take ours.
But when you are dealing with fellow human beings and you want to be successful, I want to be careful with people who are not on your side. Make sure whoever you are with is really on your side. Just because you are in the same car does not mean they are on your side, some are hitchhikers. Yes, we are in the same Biological-Boat but some members are drilling holes in the Boat. Parents or relatives, rich or poor, Husband or wife, sweetheart or not, has nothing to do with whether they are really on your side or not. Open not just your eyes and ears but your head too.
Be careful with people who are not God but when you ask them whose side they are, they answer like God and say; NO, YOU SEE, YOU KNOW.
It was the president of the United States who, after his Congress was divided on whether to attack Iraq or not, said: YOU ARE EITHER WITH US OR WITH THEM. Victory in human affairs is about clarity. You need to know who to attack and who to pass the ball to. You will keep apologizing until you are clear about who the real teammates are and the real opponents are.
It is unfortunate that my best friend has a best friend who is not me (I hope now you understand what am saying here). Victorious people in life do not just have comrades but confidants in the people around them. People who are really on your side will tell you to face that you are wrong and help you correct the mess. Those who are not on your side but with you will run to your opponents with the evidence of your weakness to kill you with it.
Do yourself a favour and get to know who really is with you on your way to success, otherwise, you won’t get there anytime soon.
