Behold, when we come into the land, you shall bind this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down; and you shall gather into your house your father and mother, your brothers, and all your father’s household. If anyone goes out of the doors of your house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we shall be guiltless; but if a hand is laid upon anyone who is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head._ (Joshua 2:18-19)
I do not have to remind any serious Bible reader the story of the floods. How God used a very old man to construct a provision for salvation from the international disaster. I do not have to remind you that the ark was filled with all sorts of beasts and reptiles and insects. It is obvious that the ark was dirty, smelling and not as comfortable as anyone’s home in the then world.
Made by an old man, an ark and not a house or a plane, filled with all sorts of animals, reptiles and insects, no reasonable person in there except the helpless family of the old man, stinking place and not healthy at all. I find no better definition of the house of Rahab than this. Rahab was not old as Noah but she was a prostitute, the house of Rahab had no animals but it was a brothel filled with all sorts of sinners (drunkards, prostitutes, divorced, murderers, etc), fugitives and the innocent ones for recruitment.
As unreasonable as Noah’s ark was, it was the only way to victory over the floods. And because it did not make sense given the standards of the judges of then, only the helpless family of the old man survived and were victorious over the floods. Likewise, no reasonable political analyst and military tactics specialist could go on air and conclude that the only safe place in Jericho was the house of Rahab.
In case you wondered, this is how Rahab ends-up a grand-mother of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (Mathew 1:5) another victor born within a Manger with poor parents. Real Victors in life always have a contrary repertoire and that is why it takes people a hard time to believe them. I have always told people at church that the only reason as to why many people will end up in Hell is because they refused to believe that:
1- _an omnipotent God became helpless and vulnerable and that very eternal God died and resurrected for their sake_ (John 1:1-3,14, Philippians 2:5-11) and
2- _that after all that God risked and went through he has forgiven (those who believe him their) past, present and future sins and he is willing to offer them eternal life for free_ (Ephesians 2:8-10).
All the right reasons we come up with against the gospel of righteousness by Grace through faith alone, are the very right reasons that those who perished in the floods and behind the walls of Jericho had. Victory is not for those who have the right reasons for not doing the right thing; victory is for those who have no reason at all for doing the right thing except for its sake.
Putting aside that you are religious and yes your religion confesses Jesus Christ, have you as an individual believed in Jesus Christ as your personal saviour? I mean you independent of your religious teachings and doctrines have you experienced his salvation. I know your life might be like the house of Rahab or actually like Noah’s ark, but have you taken on Jesus as your personal saviour and Lord? ARE YOU SURE GOD HAS FORGIVEN YOU, OR YOU STILL HAVE A BONE TO PICK WITH HIM?
All the people in Jericho believers and non-believers, religious and not, were not sure of their future. It was only Rahab and those in her brothel who were sure about their future. It did not matter how many miracles Jesus had performed in your life, or demon deliverance or how much you were anointed, how many religious holidays you had kept.
No matter how much you prayed and fasted, as long as you were in Jericho but not in the house of Rahab, your future was a sword. I don’t care how much you have achieved in this life, be you a pastor/pope, doctor, professor, scientist, leader etc, my question to you is: ARE YOU 100% SURE YOU ARE GOING TO HEAVEN? ARE YOU SURE?
