DEUTERONOMY 11: THE DANGER OF A TRANSACTIONAL RELATIONSHIP

Deuteronomy 11:26-28
“Look, today I am giving you the choice between a blessing and a curse! You will be blessed if you obey the commands of the lord your God that I am giving you today. But you will be cursed if you reject the commands of the lord your God and turn away from him and worship gods you have not known before [NLT]

A transactional relationship is a type of relationship where the quality and quantity of interdependence between partners depends on what one offers. For example, the relationship between you and your employer, the relationship between the seller and the buyer, prostitute and their customer, government and citizenry.

The advantage of this relationship is that the more you have to offer, the more you have to get. The demerit and most detrimental is that in this relationship, you are as dispensable as your possessions/”offerings”. Immediately you have a scarcity or lack of what to offer, you are completely finished.

In this Book, it is important to note that it is Moses (from his own experience as the leader) who institutes the TRANSACTIONAL APPROACH between Israel and God, but not GOD!

You and I cannot live in this kind of relationship with God for, believe me, it will always be us to lose! Be sure, it is always for us to have the ‘curses’! This is even why I am no longer praying: “forgive us our sins as we forgive.”! Now I pray: Forgive me God as you forgive according to your Grace.

BLESS ME OH LORD ACCORDING TO YOUR STEADFAST LOVE.

Amen.
