Jesus Christ who is actually God almighty creator and redeemer of this world said once and continues to say:
“But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, (Mathew 5:44).
Sometimes the Bible is easy to preach and encourage others to practice while you are not the one put on the spot. As a preacher, I have taught and trained others to love their enemies and always referred to this Christian principle and command by our God until I recently got myself an enemy.
I have spent two weeks struggling to practice what I preach and trust me there is nothing as difficult as CHRISTIANITY. Only this week I wished I was not a Christian but a weekend-show religious man who could just put on a show and think/feel otherwise.
In my struggles, what I have learnt is that it is THEOLOGICALLY WRONG to assume that when you have an enemy who is WRONG and you are RIGHT, God, therefore, is on your side. TRUTH has hit me hard with the revelation that GOD TAKES NO ONE’S SIDE BUT HIS.
In Judaism, which is the dominant religion of the Old Testament, God is presented as taking sides and always on the side of the Israelites against all other nations. This belief has been extended to our modern days where religions assume some superiority over others and am told people today believe that for you to be safe you need to pray for Israel and do a pilgrimage to Israel, etc.
People Believe God is on the side of Israelites and whoever wants to access God should go through Israel. This madness is called Zionism. Many religions convert people, not to Jesus Christ, but to their institutions because they believe that God is on their side and whoever wants to be on God’s side should be with them.
Others curse and demonize other religions and other people teaching through their doctrines and preaching how wrong others are and how right themselves are. But the truth is, in the Old Testament, God kept on fighting and breaking down Judaism and often working through unlikely forces like the Babylonians and women just to communicate to arrogant Israel that God was not on their side but on his side,
Next time you pray don’t ask God to join your side. Don’t waste your breath in prayer by convincing him how right you are and how wrong they are. God loves the VICTIM equally as he loves the CULPRIT. When he urges us to love our enemies, he is protecting us from duplicating their acts and multiplying evil. When we pray for our enemies, we are loving the sinner and hating their sin.
We should remember that unlike religion, where God Joins the side of right man-made doctrine that declares some guilty and outcasts while others are justified, Christianity is a serious business in which both the victim and the victimizer are wanted by God. While the police hunts for the thief, Jesus is hunting both the thief and the police. While the judge sentences the guilty man to prison, Jesus weighs both the Judge and the convict and finds both wanting. While you and your enemy are after each other, God is after both of you.
From today onwards, I want you to know that God takes no sides, but his own side. It doesn’t matter how right you think you are and how wrong you know they are, according to God, you are both wrong and need help. He will not join anyone’s side but he wants all of us to join his SIDE. It doesn’t matter how much you have been hurt or actually how much you have hurt others, God says you and your enemy need HELP.
Kindly stop the hustle of proving you are innocent and right and focus on finding out the will of God in every conflict. Don’t join either the so-called right side or the assumed wrong side, join the side of God. The side of God is one of love your enemy.
God is not on your side and he is not going to join you on your side, God is on his side and he wants you instead to join his side. Try as much as you can to leave your side, however much you think it is right and Join his today. And you can begin by asking a very simple question: what if am wrong?
Will you try today…
God bless you, I invoke Truth, Reason and Faith.
