Did we all descend from Adam and Eve?

The name ADAM in the Hebrew means two things:
1. Ground (from the ground)
2. Human race

Which could mean made from the ground

What we see in Genesis is the chronicler (Jewish writer ) trying to address two questions:

  1. Where did the human race come from?
  2. Is the Jewish church the true church?

So if we look at the man Adam and his wife Eve as the literary nucleus of all people in the world, we are faced with serious scientific questions which eventually might make the Bible an information age irrelevant document.

The best way is to look at this mythology in Genesis as a teaching aid geared towards communicating that wherever humanity is, it was created and did not evolve biologically from one man and woman. Every individual in the world was designed, planned and intended by God himself before he/she was channelled through the womb of their mother. So God created all colours and structures (Africans, Europeans, Asians, Easterners, etc).

The Adam mythology cuts across all cultures. For instance, what the Baganda call Kintu is what the Bible calls Adam. The Baganda believe they all came from Kintu, but if you have been studying immigration and ethnic formation, you will realise that this mythology strives to just explain the origin of the human race as opposed to whether all people were biologically from a single couple.

different colors

All cultures have struggled with the question of origin,. The Bible offers the answer of WE WERE ALL CREATED. It is this that Charles Darwin contended with his thesis of SPECIES EVOLUTION.

And by the way, whoever argues that we all came from a man known as Adam, is an indirect advocate of Charles Darwin thesis of EVOLUTION. This is why you see some people arguing using the Bible that we Africans were light-skinned until Noah cursed one of his sons. This belief operated as a justification in the days of slave trade.

Friends, Adamah means all human race as formed from dust (body). On the sixth day of creation, God created the Chinese, the Caucasians, the Africans, etc and placed (not restricted) them accordingly in their geographies. We were all made in his image and likeness. What the Bible helps us understand by using the symbolic man Adam is how the state of the affairs was before and what went wrong after, and what could be the solution?

Secondly, the Genesis creation account intends to communicate the truth that the true God revealed himself through the history of Israel. He was not only the God of Israel but a universal God who reached the world through this ethnic group. This is why the contrast between ABEL and CAIN is recurrent throughout.

ABEL represents GOOD and CAIN represents EVIL. This theme continues throughout the whole Bible from its inception in Genesis 2:16-17. This is how the Bible is going to continue until the coming of this very God in the flesh to save his ultimate creation which is the human race.

  1. Good, questioning to believe! This is the true pathway of faith, that Apostle Paul tells the Romans that “it comes from hearing, and hearing of the word of God”. Thanks brother
