THE OTE (Official Explanation of the TRINITY)
Allow me to outline for all heads to participate, the OTE states that:
1. THERE IS ONE AND ONLY ONE GOD
2. THIS GOD ETERNALLY EXISTS IN THREE DISTINCT DIVINE PERSONS
3. THE FATHER IS GOD, THE SON IS GOD, and THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GOD
4. THE FATHER IS NOT THE SON,THE SON IS NOT THE FATHER, THE FATHER IS NOT THE HOLY SPIRIT
It is ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผthat all Trinitarians will argue within not less not more. I mean serious die-hard Trinitarians not these Bonifresh and Stewart who accommodate the teaching for lack of a better explanation. Let me look for a diagram that explains pillar 4.
THE CASE OF TRINITY HERMENEUTICS
Now allow me to inform all of you that it is a very immature act for any theologian or actually Bible teacher to assume a defense of the TRINITY DOCTRINE or actually demystify the same through exegeting particular texts that make mention of the three gods, and the reasons are these:
1. Hermeneutics is the science of interpretation and this includes grammar, syntax, dictionary and lexicon meaning…however in exegesis we Biblicists unlike Systematicians, we make sense of each meaning by draining a theology communicated in the setting (historical background, culture, circumstances that determined and shaped the text) of the text. For this matter this is why we have many Grammarians but with few Exegetes.
2. Canonization issue: whenever we are handling a contentious issue like this one we need to understand that our Bible is, apart from it being a record of the inspired word of God, also a product of two forces:
(a) TRANSCRIBED THOUSANDS MANUSCRIPTS
(b) THE POLITICS OF THEN…(SOCIO-POLITICAL)
For you to understand me on my second point let me demonstrate….one of the major (if not the mother text) for TRINITY is Mathew 28:19: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations baptising them in the name of the father and the son and the Holy Spirit.
Now historically Saint Jerome who is instrumentally the name behind the translation of the Latin Vulgate is quoted saying: Mathew who is also Levi…composed a gospel…in Hebrew language and character… furthermore, the Hebrew itself is preserved to this day in the library of Caesarea which the Matter Pamphilus so diligently collected (A Catalogue of fathers of the Church and Ecclesiastical writers to the fifteenth Century= 1850).
Now we have to understand that before Jerome had these manuscripts they were under the care of EUSEBIUS a man who wrote many books like: Life of Constantine, Ancient Christ Texts, Preparation for the Gospelย etc and it is said that in all his writings, he quoted the Mathew 28:19 text more than 17 times and here is how he always put it: GO YE AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS IN MY NAME, TEACHING THEM, TO OBSERVE ALL THINGS WHATSOEVER I COMMANDED YOU
Every time he referenced this from the Hebrew manuscripts of Mathew, the brother put it thus:We can all see the danger of either ignoring or ignorance of textual criticism Something important for whoever would love to do exegesis in his explanation of the TRINITY or Quadrant, or Dual etc
We must understand the forces that influenced the Canonisation of the text we have today and for that matter that is why we have THEOLOGY TODAY. It is good there is THEOLOGY. We might not have THEOLOGIANS but THEOLOGY is always here to rectify all this. Another text is 1 John 5:7-8 and Biblical Scholars (if there is any here) will tell you that the modern version of 1 John 5:7-8 is not found in the older manuscripts.
Now OLDER is not enough justification for dismissal but what qualifies is what I call the TRIPPLE C (COHERENT CORRESPONDING and CONTEXTUAL) THEOLOGY….what do I mean? If Mathew and John were HEBREW GOSPEL WRITERS, we cannot assume for them to have advocate for a triune God at the expense of the morning and evening temple recitation: HEAR OH ISRAEL THE LORD YOUR GOD IS ONE(DEUTERONOMY 6:4).
Now that is another can of worms and this is why using John 1:1 in defense of TRINITY or more than one god can only be done by amateur Bible students who have no idea about the concept of the LOGOS which fundamentally was Johns way of establishing the Jesus of Nazareth as the YAHWEH they had always known. You can always read the following chapters and see how John presents Jesus. His intention and plot is to tell the Jews that the YAHWEH you have always known is here (or was he whom you crucified).
Finally on this issue, I would like you to research on the term: “COMMA JOHANEUM”.ย If you do, one of the things you will discover that: In 1522 Desiderius Erasmus added the words: the father, the word and the Holy Ghost to his translation after receiving political pressure to add it to the text.
There are no manuscripts before the 16th Century that include the words: father, word and holy ghost this actually can be found in some Bibles with serious footnotes under the text. Now when you attempt any doctrinal topic you must be ready to go this far…if you cannot please don’t dare hold a position.
