Please read these scriptures carefully: Jeremiah 52, 2Kings 25, Jeremiah 40 and Jeremiah 26.
I hate the fact that the concept of “REMNANT” is drawn form the act of king Nebuchadnezzar capturing Israel and selecting the following from all the captives:
- The Nobles
- The Educated
- The Talented
- The Skilled
- The Beautiful (physically)
- The Strong and Healthy (without any defects)
These are the ones he took to Babylon as slaves and it is from these that we have Daniel, Shadrack, Meshach, Abednego.
The king took only the crème de la crème of Israel to Babylon and left all the:
- Peasants
- Illiterate
- Untalented
- Unskilled
- Unfortunate looks (ugly)
- Physically weak and sick
Back in Israel, he appointed Zedekiah as their king. He then instructed that they should pay their taxes to Babylon. With them, he left a prophet known as Titro-Isaiah (palace prophet) who was a very compromised man and with inconsistent Theology. Of course this poor theological prophet was inspired to the level of his literacy abilities. He developed the theme known as: COMFORT MY PEOPLE.
In this, he argued that the REMNANT (unhealthy, ugly, helpless, poor quality left after the Babylonian King had shipped the rest to the first world super-power Babylon) were chosen by Yahweh instead of those who were taken into exile in Babylon. He then encouraged those in Babylon that Yahweh was soon delivering them out of captivity.
It was this theme that Prophet Jeremiah dismissed and told the Israelites in Babylon to settle and work towards the success of that country. In fact, because of who they were (helpless), they even failed to pay their taxes and instead, were misled by the poor Titro-Isaiah prophecy into rebellion. Nebuchadnezzar captured and demolished them in the second deportation (587).
In this generation, I see a typical example of this hopeless “REMNANTS” in a certain RELIGION that propagates that it is the REMNANT church. In biblical theology, REMNANT is not a sign of success but rather of a crisis. It is when everything and everyone sensible is taken and you are left with RESIDUE.
REMNANT also signifies a desertion of God. For when Nebuchadnezzar surrounded the walls of Israel, the prophets asked God why and he clearly told them he was with Nebuchadnezzar.
Now am kindly asking you to always question your religious doctrines before you jump on them and judge other faiths basing on a jittery foundation and glassy walls.
