THE VOTE

Voting is a way of coming to a decision in a situation where two sides think are right. Now as a philosopher i know we cannot have two “sides” of the same people being right on the same issue.
Politics being as old as this world has devised a way of making decisions on contentious issues and one of them is VOTING. As a theologian i subscribe to the view that the world is corrupt and so is its content (humanity inclusive). Voting is a political element and the vote itself a corrupt thing.

The Vote to me is a corrupt thing for two reasons:

1-it is a process whereby a MAJORITY is right not qualitatively but quantitatively. In other words if 1000 mad men said it is true and two sober men confirmed it wrong, it becomes true upon the vote. The problem with majority minority decision making is that FIGURES subdue FACTS and we end up counting rather reasoning.
2-the internationally accepted principle of any election is that it must be FREE and FAIR. Now these two words make the vote a corrupt entity in a very interesting way.

Freedom to vote means that a citizen is free to vote or not to…in other words, the politics of election give citizens a freedom to choose and not to choose on the future of their nation rather than making it a mandatory act which is punishable. Government does not make taxes optional but it makes national elections optional…and we from the well-thinking society wonder which of the two is more important than the other.!!!

We are free not to vote but once the government we voted for or never voted for comes into power none of us retains their freedom to obey or defy it. Not voting therefore is an abuse of our real futuristic freedom…and I recommend we always participate.
The other word is ‘FAIR’, now according to me FAIR numerically means that you have 50% on the right and 50% on the Left. Look at it from this angle; the constitution of Uganda suggests that for one to become the president elect he/she must gather a 51% votes to their side, failure to do so is never a president.

I want you to note that FAIR stands for +50 and -50 on both sides. FAIR means that you gather two kinds of votes into your basket, the legit 50% and the illegal 50%. And the applies to all sides whether incumbent or opposition.

So basically you have to gather all the legit votes you have and at the same time augment those with the fraudulent ticks. The politics of voting is very faithful not to use or even imply the word ‘TRUTH’ anywhere in all its sayings and exercises. FREE and FAIR does not in any way mean or even imply ‘TRUTH’. It just means that the corruption must be free and fair. That is why whenever there is a petition over vote-rigging the courts of law argue in Quantifications as opposed to arguing substantively.

The precedent is when the court ruled over 2006 elections that there was rigging but which could not necessitate a re-election. To me this established that; rigging is acceptable as long as it is FAIR. So dear country men before you run on streets and fight each other over political endeavors like voting, do yourself a favor and understand that the ballot is both non-living and blind as a bullet. Both a ballot and bullet make no decisions they are however instruments that depend at the disposal of men’s sobriety.

Do not judge lest you be judged too…(thus saith the Bible)…the mere fact that after the elections we have spoilt votes and invalid votes is a straight message to all of us that the fellow human being in charge of counting and declaring can always behave like us the voters and have spoilt counting that might always result into invalid declarations. Trust me
