UNBELIEVERS: WHO ARE THEY?

2Cor 6:14: “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?”

If you asked a Muslim who is an unbeliever they will tell you whoever isn’t a Muslim, if you asked the Catholics they will tell you whoever isn’t a Catholic is…and that continues all throughout other denominations. It is important to note that all religions read this text and own it to use it against other religions…

Before I was born again became a Christian I was an SDA (Seventh-Day Adventist Member), and I was taught that God was a Seventh-Day, since he created the world in six days and rested on the Seventh-Day (Genesis 2:1-3), and commanded all those who wanted to be his and like him to do so every week (Exodus 20:8-11) regardless of whether theirs was creation or work!!! So for the fifteen years I spent in this religion I knew it was the true church of God and others were but satanic churches…so dating or marrying anyone from other religions was a taboo. Until Jesus met me in Bugema University (my Damscus Experience) and asked me why I was persecuting him in the name of serving him…it was then I realized that God has no religion, (specific container) but he has people all over who believe (BELIEVERS) him in all these containers (religions) and outside religions (secular world). And at the same time there are people who don’t believe him in these religious containers and in the secular world.

Now who are we forbidden to be yoked with? Are they people from other religions or people who are unbelievers regardless of where they are, be it within our ranks of the beloved religions and confessions? For you to answer this question allow me to demonstrate before you the Greek word translated in that text as: “UNBELIEVERS”

The word is “APISTOIS” is from Pistis and Pistis means: practically continuous faith or faithfulness, trusty or trusting, Belief in God and his basic oracles.

APISTIS on the other hand is Pistis but with a negative particle (” A” short form of “ANTI”). an Apistos (unbeliever) is the one who is “actively” disbelieving, that is, one without Christian faith whatesoever  specifically a heathen); but an ordinary heathen but rather a pagan who is intently opposed to God. Something equally the same with an ANTI-CHRIST.

It is they that believeth not, that are faithless and practically determined not to believe, apistois is against faith…it is understanding what faith is and all it about (JESUS) and choosing to oppose what is right (salvation by faith through grace not works). Apistos is DARKNESS in sin and PISTIS is LIGHT in righteousness that is why Paul now asks two rhetorical questions:

1- “What PARTNERSHIP (metoxe) has righteousness (dikaisune) and lawlessness (anomia)?”

2-“What FELLOWSHIP (Koinonia) has Light (foti) and darkness (skotos)

This is but a contrast of two naturally established and constant extremes.

In tracing who is a believer and who is an unbeliever inspire of their religion and lip service;I wish I had time to tell you of the story of the two wives of pastor Jacob who stole the gods of Laban (Gen 31:33). And so are many today who are in church on Sunday and in shrines throughout the week. I wish I had time to talk of the story of RUTH and Boaz, time will not allow to discuss Zipporah the medianite religious lady and her brother Jethro a priest from the midianite religion who helped frame the theology of the Israelites through the wilderness… Meanwhile the real Israelites were complaining and cursing God….

I know of people married to Muslims happier than those married to people of the same religion.

IT IS NOT A RELIGION, IT IS A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.

GOD BLESS YOU
