My inbox is filled with issues raised by both fundamentalists and liberals on the question of whether we should celebrate the 25th as Jesus’ birthday or not…and let me give simple answer.
1-first there is no question and debate on the fact that Christmas has heathen (read secular) origins and never was it a christian day ever since its birth
2-secondary the 25th of December ain’t the exact date nor day of Jesus’ birth and no date is provided in the canon
3-third there is no command, inference or directive from Jesus Christ/canon that we should celebrate his birth and neither is there a prohibition for us to do that
4-fifth all the objects like: Santa clause, the tree, shrine worship, decoration and all both positive and negative gestures depending on one’s vantage point are symbolic and they communicate different contents to both the christian world and the heathen world (aka proprietors)
NOW SHOULD A CHRISTIAN CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS OR NOT?
I don’t know what celebration entails to mean to each of us but here is my rhetorical view:
If i participate in anyway in this festive i could say: am not celebrating the gods of ancient pagans I have replaced them with my Jesus…. So who cares what it means to the pagans….just ask what it means to me….
Let me ask you: is Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, whatsApp, Viber owned by Christians or atheists? Don’t christians utilize these foras for their gospel work….is that yoking with unbelievers!!! I don’t know.
As I type this am seated in a matatu (east African taxis) I don’t know whether the owner, the driver and the operator believes in God….wait a minute let me ask my neighbor… Ohhh God…..does it mean because we are in together we have the same belief and destinations !! No…
I wish I could extend this to your work place….
SO MERRY CHRISTMAS …to the MASS OF CHRIST
And woe unto to those stuck to the ancient meaning and gods.
So guys….get busy and mind essentials….
